There s something about the days leading up to Diwali that make them as fun as the actual festival of lights itself. Prepping for Diwali is a huge project cleaning all the otherwise ignored nooks and corners of your home, checking to see if last year s string lights work, buying or making lanterns, whipping up all the delish Diwali goodies, shopping for ethnic traditional wear, getting all your rangoli gear ready and getting your fireworks haul in place. Let s admit it; our homes never look better at any other time of the year. What will make your efforts even more special is when you decorate your home with your own DIY decorations. With just a couple of days left for Diwali, there s still time to do these creative DIY Diwali decoration projects with your children:
1) Diya festoon - All you need are colourful papers, scissors and strings for this festoon of little colourful diyas of paper. If you re wary of handing over scissors to your kids, you can let them handle the gluing up part of the project.
2) Upgraded diya: This DIY trick will upgrade your humble diyas. Plus you ll be able to reuse all those old CDs and DVDs. A quick, simple project that won t take more than 15 minutes.
3) Floral string lights: You can get basic fairy lights in stores. But how will you make yours stand out? Here s a simple trick! You just need some paper, glue and scissors.
4)Rangoli with kicthen utensils: Looking for some rangoli inspiration? There are tons of pretty, intricate designs out there. But how many many can you actually manage to do? Here are some rangoli tricks you can use to make stunning patterns with just a steel plate, jar lids and matchsticks.
5) Customised gift boxes: Diwali is all about gifting your loved ones. Why not wrap up those in your own DIY gift boxes? They're easy to make, they'll be cheaper than store-bought ones and you can customise them as you want. Here's a video for some guidance.
