Breakfast idea for kids -- Peas Laccha Paratha

There are a lot of veggies that don t make to the favourites list of your child s menu. Green peas are notorious in that respect. While some kids like to devour them, some would just roll them out of their plate. But these little green pods have a host of health benefits. So if you don t know how to feed your child green peas, try making peas laccha paratha, a recipe designed especially for kids by Dhvani Shah, pediatric nutrition and Author of the book Don t just feed..Nourish your child. They are sure to satiate your little one and relish it with joy.

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp oil
  • Salt to taste

For the stuffing

  • 1 cup fresh green peas
  • tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp green chilli paste
  • cup milk
  • 1 tsp oil

METHOD

For the dough

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and knead into a soft dough using water.
  2. Divide into 6 parts and keep aside.

For the filling

  1. Wash the green peas well and grind into a thick paste using very little water.
  2. Heat oil in a nonstick pan. Add the cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add the peas paste and saut for 2-3 minutes till the peas are cooked.
  4. Add milk, chilli paste and salt and cook till the mixture is dry enough to resemble a paste.
  5. Divide into 6 parts and keep aside.

How to make it

  1. Roll out one portion of the dough into a 5 diameter roti.
  2. Spread one portion of the filling evenly over the roti.
  3. Roll the roti from one end to form a cigar. Further roll this cigar to form a tight coil.
  4. Press this coil lightly and again roll out a 6 diameter paratha.
  5. Roast this paratha using clarified butter over a hot griddle on both sides.
  6. Serve hot with tomato chutney, curd or pickle.
