Getting some food over for a new mother is an age-old tradition among many communities. However, the classic comfort foods like biryani and some cheesecake aren t always the healthiest, especially for breastfeeding mothers. So if you plan to prepare a dish for a friend who has just delivered why not make your homemade version of laddoo that is just as hearty but healthier?

These methi ke laddoos are not only delicious but also extremely healthy. Many Indian women eat a lot of methi laddoos when they are lactating. This is because fenugreek or methi seeds contain galactagogues that enhance the breast milk production in breastfeeding mothers.

Ingredients:

  • 50 g methi seeds
  • 250 g whole wheat flour (gehu ka atta)
  • 1 tbsp guar gum
  • 200 g jaggery
  • 1 tbsp of ghee

Method of preparation:

  • Dry roast 50g methi or fenugreek seeds on low flame till they turn golden brown in colour and keep them aside.
  • Now, roast 250g of whole wheat flour by adding 1 tbsp of ghee, till it turns slightly brown in colour.
  • Splutter 1 tbsp of guar gum in a teaspoon of ghee. Take it off the heat and let it cool.
  • Mix roasted methi seeds; wheat flour and gaur gum with 200g jaggery and grind all the ingredients together.
  • Now, divide the mixture into small portions and make ladoos.
  • You can also add one tsp of dry ginger powder to enhance the flavour and also to make it healthier. Also, try these 7 Indian methi or fenugreek recipes.

If you are a lactating mother and if preparing the laddoos seems too much of work for you, you can simply sprinkle methi or fenugreek seeds on your vegetables or soak methi seeds overnight in a glass of water and drink it early in the morning.
