I have recently started to make homemade baby wipes to clean my baby's bottom and keep the diaper area free of rashes. I had always bought baby wipes in bulk because they are convenient and makes the entire diaper changing routine hassle free. While I never faced any particular problem with the store bought wipes with my first born with my second child I noticed a lot of rashes develop in the privates after using them. Even with the ones labelled as 'natural,' 'herbal,' etc. Let me tell you I also give my little one enough diaper free time. So, this was when I tried to search for an affordable and alternative option to baby wipes. Here are five causes of diaper rashes that you need to know about.
I found that the internet is loaded with such DIY baby wipes solutions and most of them use toilet paper to make the wipes. I did try some of the solutions but then I came up with my own version of the same. The ones that are there on the net use a mix of essential oils and mild soaps to soak the toilet paper and use them every time you need a wipe. However, you need to choose a paper toilet roll which is sturdy and doesn't tear easily. Since I found them tear off soon and disintegrate easily I came up with my own solution. Here is how I made mine:
I gave the toilet papers a miss and switched to cotton gauzes. Not the normal ones that you use to bandage a wound but the heavy duty ones which are bigger in size.
Get one big role of it. Cut them into sizes so you can make four folds for a single wipe. You can decide for yourself what size you want your wipes to be; mine was cut into 15cmX15cm size as it is bigger and helps to clean more area at once. I had also inserted a thin film of cotton in the gauze to make it firm and heavy.
For the solution, I used two spoons of almond oil, two spoons of olive oil, four to five drops of chamomile oil and special baby care vitamin E oil. I mixed all these ingredients in a bowl with half a litre of water and dipped the gauzes in the solution and kept it aside.
Remember you just have to soak the gauzes in the solution and not drench them.
Store them properly in a thoroughly sanitised and dried plastic box or your previous baby wipes packet.
Use as and when required.
I make around seven to 10 of these wipes at a time and use them within a day or two. Yes, this is more time consuming but it keeps my little one's bottoms rash free. Here are five tips to prevent diaper rashes in babies.
