One of two important products recently unveiled by the brand, the Mi Band goes beyond the call of duty for the typical fitness tracker. In addition to tracking health metrics that include exercise and sleep, it acts as a security device for Xiaomi's recently announced MI 4 smartphone.
Holding the device in the hand that wears the tracker will unlock the smartphone with no need for its code. That's not all: the battery is said to last 30 days. Among other wearables, the two-week battery life of the Withings Pulse O2 is perhaps the most impressive. Others, like the Garmin Vivofit, which offers one year, and the Misfit Shine, which offers four months, use replaceable batteries.
The device is said to contain an alarm It bears the IP67 certification, which is essentially a seal of approval for being water resistant from the International Electrotechnical Commission, which sets the standards for electronic goods. Available colors will include pink, blue and green, and whether the device will be available for sale in international markets has yet to be confirmed. Those who travel through China can pick one up for approximately 69 Yen, or a little less than $13.
