3D-BraWearing a wrong size bra could lead to neck, back and shoulder pain. It can also hamper the shape of your breasts and not provide the adequate support they need. But very soon women will be able to get the perfect fit with the help of 3D-printed bras.

A firm called Joyfit, a brainchild of Qian Jin from the Columbia University in New York, will soon offer 3D-printed, customised bras using a mobile app.

The user first needs to download the app and film a video of her upper torso. The company guarantees all videos will remain confidential and secure. The user will then use Joyfit's interactive application to check out different sizes, media reports said.

After finding a good fit, the user can upload the video following which the system comes up with the perfect dimensions for the silicone within the bra. The bra, costing nearly $100, could then be 3D printed and sent home, reports added.

'Joyfit tailor-made bras are able to enhance the breast curve according to the customer's shape profile as well as cater to her request with regard to padding, lifting and coverage levels,' Jin said in a statement.

Tips to choose the right bra size

  • Wear the best fitting bra you have and measure the fullest part of your breast and note the measurement.
  • Next, measure just below your bust-line if it is an even number like 32, add 4 to it making it 36 in, and if it is an odd number say 31, add 3 to it making it 34 in. This is your band size.
  • Subtract your band size from the number you got earlier of the fullest part. This difference is your cup size. 1 = A, 2 = B, and so on.
  • If your band size is 36 in, the fullest part is 34 in, then your bra size will be (36 in 34 in = 2, 2 =B) i.e. 36B.
  • You can take this to be your standard size but different styles and brands of bras fit differently so there will be slight difference in the size.
