Fed up of side-effects of beauty products loaded with chemical ingredients? Offering you the most natural option, non-government organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) launches a new range of products containing cow dung and gau mutra (cow urine).

Stressing the medicinal value of cow dung and urine, VHP claims that the line of beauty products are superior to other products in the market. Here's a list of launched beauty products:

  • Nandini beauty soap -- a mixture of aloe vera, almond oil and gau mutra
  • Lal Dant Manjan -pudina ka phool
  • Babool Chhal --cow dung ash
  • Harde Churna laxative -- harde soaked in fresh gau mutra
  • Snannadi Vilayan bathing liquid -- gau mutra arka, hau maya bhasma
  • Nandini skin cream -- gau mutra rasa, gau maya rasa, yellow beeswax
  • Nandini dhoop sticks -- cow dung, and various herbs

Use of gau mutra and cow dung in Ayurveda medicine is a common practice but people hesitate to use them. That's when the thought of making beauty products containing these ingredients occurred. Cow dung is actually effective in preventing pimples and cow urine is considered to have detoxifying properties.

'The use of gau mutra in medicines and beauty products will help farmers and prevent them from selling cows. Ayurveda talks about use of cow dung to prevent pimples. But people are reluctant to use dung, which is why we are making beauty products out of it,' the VHP leader Venkatesh Abdeo said. (Read: Can Ayurveda help control hair loss?)

The VHP already has a range of medicines containing Ayurvedic components to treat heart disease and other conditions. They already have 48 medicines and eight international patents so far. The line of beauty products is just another way of promoting Ayurveda in different form, says Dr Abdeo. (Read: Top beauty tips according to your dosha)
