November 14 is the World Diabetes Day.

Starting this year, the theme for the World Diabetes Day (WDD) is 'Healthy Living and Diabetes' which will be repeated for the next two years. The WDD is a campaign led by International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in response to diabetic epidemic that is currently threatening the world.

The IDF announced that the global symbol for diabetes will be a blue circle that indicates and makes the world realise that diabetes still means nothing to millions of people. The blue circle will also remind us to increase awareness about the condition globally, given the fact that people don't take it seriously despite knowing its seriousness.

To promote this campaign, IDF has developed a 'WDD selfie app' that will circulate and make the 'blue circle' go viral in a fun way. The website mentions that people can download the app and take selfies at any place famous landmark, popular events or concerts and post in on social media.

Here's how you can use the app, as mentioned by IDF's website:

  • Download it for IOS (Apple) or Android (click on IOS or Android or scan the QR code below)
  • Allow WDD to use your picture to make sure it is shared on our WDD pages
  • Take a selfie
  • Move the blue circle around your face or be creative (see examples below)
  • Share it online with your friends and add a personal message to it

So, download the app and spread the word!
