It had been widely reported that Germany and Arsenal footballer Mesut Ozil had donated his bonus from the Germany's World Cup victory to Gaza but that appears to a lie according to his Facebook page.
Ozil said he had donated the money to 23 kids in Brazil to get surgeries. The initiative is part of a charity he partnered with BigShoe that raises money for children to get surgeries in countries where football tournaments are being held. Earlier, Ozil had promised to help 11 children who needed help but post the World Cup win which saw Germany beat Argentina in extra time, he decided to donate his 300,000 Euros bonus to help 23 kids, because it takes 23 to make a squad.
