London, June 10 (ANI): Professional women are more susceptible to developing breast cancer, a new research has revealed. The study found that women in professional jobs had a nearly 70 per cent higher risk of breast cancer than other women, the Independent reported. Factors responsible for the vulnerability is stress at work, including prejudice, discrimination, and resistance. The research, which was based on a 55-year study of women who were in their thirties in the 1970s, shows that the longer a woman held the job, the greater will be the risk. Dr Tetyana Pudrovska, who led the study, said that while women going into management in the 1970s were breaking new ground, the same kind of stress affects women today. The study focused on nearly 4,000 women who were all aged 36 in 1975.
What is breast cancer?
Breast cancer is a type of cancer originating from the breast tissues. Both men and women can be afflicted by it though it s rarer in men. Along with cervical cancer it s one of the most common types of cancer that afflicts women. One of the major issues with breast cancer is that it is often not detected soon enough. This is due to low awareness about the disease. Detecting it early can significantly reduce the death risk.
