For centuries the colour red has been associated with fertility, but now a new study has found that women who wear colours like red or pink do so when they are most fertile, subconsciously.
The study was carried out at the University of British Columbia on 124 women, between the ages of 18 and 47. They asked the women to tell them the colour of the clothes they were wearing and when they had had their last menstrual cycle. The researchers then calculated the peak fertile days for each woman. They deduced that the women most often wore the colours pink or red during the days they were most fertile.
As the next step the researchers plan to ask the women why they chose to wear a particular colour on those days. The scientists deduced that the reason for their choice was possibly because they felt sexier and wanted to grab more attention, either consciously or subconsciously.
What is a fertile period?
This is a period when the egg or ovum is released from the ovary into the Fallopian tubes. This is usually around the fourteenth day (counting from the first day the periods) of a woman s menstrual cycle. This is known as the ovulation period and it lasts for three days. There are a number of ways to find out if a woman is ovulating, a convenient method is to use an ovulation kit. To find out more about ovulation kits, click here.
