Woman dies after delivery, committee formed to probe the incident

A preganant woman died minutes after delivering the baby at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak, following which a committee has been formed by the hospital to probe the incident. Neelam, a resident of Jind, was admitted to Obstetrician and Gynaecology department of PGIMS, Rohtak on May 14 and was diagnosed with ascites, anasarca with pleural effusion with jaundice, a hospital spokesperson said. Immediately after the delivery, the patient started gasping. Despite CPR, she could not be revived and was declared dead, the spokesperson said. He said the patient and her relatives were briefed regarding her condition by doctors from time to time and had no grievance with the hospital staff. They agreed to shift the body but during that process they had some altercation with the security guard at labour room following which they alleged negligence on the part of the hospital administration, the spokesperson added. A committee of doctors has been directed to probe the incident and submit their report within 48 hours, he said.
