Skin Care

There are some basic rules to follow, so your skin survives the assault of winter.

  • Moisturise! This cannot be stated often enough.
  • While it is enticing jump into a hot shower, it is important to avoid the temptation. Use cool or lukewarm water.
  • Pamper yourself with an oil bath.
  • Pat your skin dry with a soft towel. Do not rub the skin.
  • Ensure that all your skin products are alcohol-free. Alcohol strips away moisture.
  • Flaxseed oil can moisturise your body from the inside, since it has reserves of vital fatty acids. Do include it in your diet.
  • Drink plenty of water, so your skin remains hydrated.
  • Finally, do not lick your lips! This will only make them chap. (Read: Home remedies for winter skincare)

Beauty at your fingertipsWhile moisturising, here are some points to bear in mind.

  • Make sure you moisturise when skin is damp.
  • Use a vitamin E moisturiser.
  • Avoid applying soap before moisturising.
  • Do not excessively wash the skin or hair
  • Should one moisturise before going to bed? Contrary to popular belief, the skin needs to breathe and repair itself at night, and moisturisers impair this process. All the skin needs at night is a very light lotion to prevent dehydration. If your skin feels dry, you could opt for

extra moisturising during the day. (Read: 10 winter care tips your skin will thank you for!)
