The 'No-Shave November' campaign to spread cancer awareness and raise funds is seeing a number of volunteers coming forward. This awareness campaign was conceived with an intention to better the conditions of cancer patients and provide for all the help they need. Doing away with often expensive trips to the salon for either grooming, shaving, waxing, threading your hair but instead donating those bucks for the noble cause of cancer research is a simple yet effective way of spreading the word.

No-Shave November is a non-profit organisation formulated by Rebecca Hill and Bret Ringdhal in 2009. Only every November, contributions and donations are focused on cancer prevention, education, research and care for the patients. All the donations gathered are directed and handed over to the American Cancer Research. It's a way of saving up on all the hair cancer patients lose during chemotherapy and heavy medications.

However, for those sticking to the cause and maintaining their long locks, here is how you can go about it:

For men's facial hair

Go 'over beard'

Men with square faces should opt for styles that make their faces appear less box-like and more slender. The best style for this facial shape is a light but all-over beard. Keep a watch on the length of your hair and trim it as and when needed.

Longer, fuller beard for triangular face-cut

Men with triangular-shaped or even high cheek bones tend to have very pointed chins. The longer, fuller beard will make such face types appear masculine and add character by adding weight along the jaw line and chin.

Maintain and manage

Hygiene is most important for haircare. In case you haven't grown a beard before you should not overlook this rule. From time to time, keep combing your beard with a fine-toothed comb to ensure its smooth and tangle-free. Shampoo and condition your beard as the length increases. Here are some more useful tips for maintaining a beard.

Amla oil to help grow your facial hair faster

Amla or the Indian gooseberry is well effective on facial hair growth. Try using it as a stand-alone ingredient or in combination with mustard leaves. Massage a little amla oil onto your face and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Rinse it off with cold water. For better results, use this remedy at least 4 times a week. Long hair

Invest in haircare products and tools

To suit your hair texture, consult your personal hairstylist for the hair products you would need on a daily basis. It s best to choose a hair cream, conditioner and other styling products once you know what s best for you.

Maintain hair texture

It's extremely crucial to keep your hair clean and well-maintained especially when long. Frizzy hair is a common hair problem as the hair grows longer. Use a smoothening leave-in serum to tame down the frizz and keep away from sun exposure. UV rays are harsh on the hair texture and can fade off your coloured hair too. Apply a sunscreen on your hair, consult your hairstylist to suggest one to you. In case you are a regular swimmer, use a leave-in conditioner and clarifying shampoo after your swim to help control damage against the chlorinated water.

Styling it just right

A sleek and pulled-back hairstyle goes perfectly well for a professional environment. It is neat and sophisticated in style. The pulled-back look is easy and fuss-free for those with long hair or the long shag hairstyle. Celebrity hairstylist Vikas Marwah advises: To get this look just right, apply some serum with gel for a strong hold and glossy sheen on your hair.

Ensure your hair is back-combed and tied into a low pony or bun with a clear elastic band. Keep in mind to not tie your hair too tight. Using a coated band in preferable as this would keep your hair away from the friction it could cause otherwise leading to hair breakage. For a causal look, wear a bandanna, or a hairband if you like.
