Is homeopathy the future drug?

While most of us will turn to allopathy for any treatment or cure, we know that they also have their side effects too. Expressing concern over the excessive use of antibiotics in allopathy, which results in drug resistance, health experts Saturday said that homeopathy can do away with this menace.

'These days allopathic doctors are using thousands of antibiotics to treat very simple diseases. And due to overuse of antibiotics, when some big health problems happen medicines don't work on patients,' doctor R.K. Manchanda, director general of the Central Council of Research in Homeopathy told IANS on the sidelines of the National Homeopathic Conference here. Manchanda said antibiotics are mainly misused to treat allergy-related diseases such as asthma, skin inflammations and atopic dermatitis, which occur very often.

'In homeopathy there are around 200 medicines for a single disease. If standard practices are followed, then people can avoid side effects,' he said. He added that chronic diseases such as cancer and even Ebola can be treated through these medicines. Pankaj Aggarwal, who has over 25 years experience in this field, said that allopathy treatment of allergy-related diseases has lots of side effects as patients need to take preventive measures all though their life.

'Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine that treats mental, emotional and physical illness. It can be used effectively by everyone, from babies to children to adults, including women during pregnancy too,' says Dr Shreepad Khedekar, clinical director and homeopath Imperial Clinics, Mumbai. Though homeopathy's varied benefits unveil in a slow and steady manner unlike the conventional ones, here are reasons why you should opt for it:

It's nature at its best: While opting for a homeopathic treatment you can rest assured that your body will be free of toxins or other harmful substances. This is because homeopathy medicines or remedies are made from herbs, plants, flowers and trees amongst other natural things. Homeopathic medicines are made out of extracts of plants, herbs, trees and flowers which are then diluted with double distilled water. Research has found that the distilled water in which homeopathic medicines are made emits more heat when mixed with the extract contributing to the medicine's efficacy. 'This formation has high energetic properties,' informs Dr Khedekar. Homeopathic medicines that are made after the dilution and distillation process make it highly effective even in its diluted form.

It promotes the body's ability to heal: Homeopathic medicines are made out of natural extracts, and are diluted many times to suit a person's requirements and needs. If the same medication was given in high doses i.e., without diluting, it could aggravate the symptoms of the condition instead of curing it. 'But in small, pure diluted doses, homeopathic medicines also promote the body's natural ability to heal itself by stimulating a person's intrinsic self-healing properties,' says Dr Khedekar.

It's effective for all age groups: Homeopathic treatments can be effectively prescribed to babies as well as children and is an effective form of treatment for acute illnesses. Apart from that homeopathy is considered safe for the treatment for pregnant women who suffer from common woes like morning sickness, nausea or other probable niggles associated with pregnancy, and other health ailments.
