Why surya namaskar is not about any religion

The Namaz prayer routine involves many yoga asanas, then why is surya namaskar being singled out as a religious practice?

Some have alleged that Surya Namaskar is the propagation of religious (read Hindu) beliefs through yoga, but the fact is, the Namaz has several poses that mimic various yoga asanas. No, this does not mean that it originated from yoga but certainly makes you wonder what the fuss is all about when Muslims are in a way practising yoga every time they pray.

According to Yogi Fari, a Muslim yoga teacher, A lot of people don't realize this but if you look at the Muslim prayer, the actual routine, it is very similar to yogic poses. It has the mountain pose, hero's pose, forward bend, child's pose and a hand mudra. To someone like me, there are many similarities between these two deeply spiritual practices and I find a natural flow and balance in living as a Muslim yogi. I am NOT saying that Islam came from yoga, or vice versa, I am simply saying that yogis and Muslims are more alike than people realize, she says on her blog.

What makes surya namaskar unique

Keeping all the religious sentiments aside, you should perform the surya namaskar because it has several health benefits. It not only helps you detox and improve flexibility, but also keeps you mentally fit by keeping anxiety at bay. Glowing skin and weight loss are an added bonus of this pose.
