99 women from Mumbai including Deepika Padukone came forward to be a part of a short film on women empowerment. Titled 'My Choice' and directed by Homi Adajania, the film is about women taking a stand for their right -- making their choice whether it is about the kind of clothes they want to wear, what time they want to be back home, or even about being a lesbian, having a fling and more. It is a woman's choice to make her own decisions about her life without being judged for it. Watch how Indian women #makeithappen this Women's Day.
In a country like India where women are constantly blamed and shamed without their fault be it a rape case or a cricket match, it is vital that women stand up for something that is their birthright. The film sends across a strong message that we will not back down no matter the world says and do what we feel is right for us. Also watch - women decide a rapist's fate.
'You' first need to accept who you are, your flaws, your strengths and be comfortable with it to then be able to go out and stand for yourself and say this is who I am,' said Deepika.
On being asked why she decided to take up this issue of women empowerment, Deepika said, 'It is the need of the hour and I think it is not just for Indian women but on a global level to create more awareness about the same. And I think it was important for me to be a part of the awareness through this film. By speaking up if I can make a difference in even few lives, why not!'
