What's the link between SRK's 'Fan' and KJo's 'Baahubali'?

As Indians, we take two things very seriously -- movies and cricket. As clich d as it sounds, Cricket is our religion and Sachin Tendulkar is God. And when it comes to movies, it's not just Bollywood -- we have Tollywood, Kollywood, Mollywood, Ollywood and even Sandalwood (no, I don't mean chandan).

It doesn't faze us to hear about Superstar Rajnikanth being worshiped at a temple by his devout fans. Everything celebrities do, sets a trend in our country (remember the 'Tere Naam' hairstyle?). No matter how intelligent we consider ourselves, we can't stop ourselves from taking a peek at page 3.

6th July was Ranveer Singh and Dalai Lama's birthday. While the former's birthday wishes were trending all day on Twitter, the latter was nowhere to be seen on the Twitter trends panel. Here are a few Dalai Lama quotes on love and life.

But why this craze? Why do we blindly follow anything and everything celebrities do?

In a paper published in 2003 titled, 'A Clinical Interpretation of Attitudes and Behaviors Associated with Celebrity Worship', Dr. John Maltby and colleagues explain a phenomenon known as 'Celebrity Worship Syndrome'. Described as an obsessive-addictive disorder where an individual becomes overly interested (to the point of obsession) in a celebrity's personal life, Celebrity worship syndrome is not uncommon in a country like ours.

Case in point, this tweet from Karan Johar yesterday:

Dharma Productions' latest release 'Baahubali' has been trending on every social media platform for the past two days. Twitter has been trending with hashtags like #Baahubali and #BaahubaliStorm. People are going nuts over a movie even before its release.

Another such incident making rounds on social media is a teaser for Shah Rukh Khan's movie Fan -- set to release in April 2016. Twitter has been buzzing all day with fans going crazy after Yash Raj Films tweeted this:
