Just when Nestle s woes seem to be coming to an end with the Bombay High Court lifting the ban on Maggi, Mother Dairy has found itself in a fresh controversy. Reports of milk adulterated with soap and frozen fat broke yesterday and since then the internet is abuzz with angry consumers.
However, on Thursday, S. Nagarajan, MD, Mother Dairy, assured consumers that their product is safe. In a statement to ANI, Nagarajan said, Since yesterday we have been hearing news about the fact that a sample which has failed on account of detergent. I would like to clarify to every consumer that our milk is safe. When the first report came from Lucknow which showed that the fat was lower, we were very sure because of the tests that we had done, that our milk was meeting standards.'
According to reports, some samples of milk were collected in January this year from Mother Dairy booths in Ghaziabad by the district Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) department and sent to the Kolkata laboratory where detergent and frozen fat were detected.
