The expert panel has now declared that it was 'premature' to declare the cases as totally-resistant. However, they have given a go-ahead to Mumbai's pilot urban TB project. Read on to learn more about it.

Mumbai is now the venue for the pilot project to combat the new cases of XXDR-TB. According to the news in the Times of India, the following are the steps being taken to strengthen the project:
Mumbai will now have a TB officer.
There will be now 24 TB districts, each of them armed with a TB unit with special staff and diagnostics.
More staff will be available for the control of XXDR-TB
People from the public health department will now go door-to-door for awareness drives and diagnosis of new TB cases.
The TB Hospital in Sewri will be reinforced with 45 more beds for TB cases in addition to the current 45.
Mumbai's TB patients will not wait only for two months while on the TB regimen to be tested for drug resistance. This means earlier detection and hence better chances of recovery.
Now, drug resistance testing can be done in more labs apart from the one at JJ Hospital with accreditations being given to Hinduja Hospital and private ones like SRL Labs too.
