You must have given -life after death a thought. But have you ever thought what happens if you were to be in a coma? Would you be able to hear noises, feel things even when you are asleep? Well, this girl’s experience will paint a picture of what it is to be in a coma! Also Read - Clade X virus can kill 900 million people across globe if not checked, says study

Claire Wineland kept on picturing herself in Alaska looking at forests, caves and wildlife. She remembers staring at the beautiful scenery for hours and times feeling extremely cold. Also Read - Doctors revive a 62-year-old who had received multiple shocks to treat his condition

While she thought, she was in Alaska, in reality she was hospitalised at a California facility in a medically induced coma. Turns out Wineland who suffered from cystic fibrosis contracted an infection called blood sepsis after a routine surgery, and the doctors had to induce a coma for her treatment. In her YouTube channel, Claire recently posted a video where she explains what she went through for two days while she was in a coma. She recollects she could hear all the noise and people around her, and in her head she could also react to her surroundings, but in reality none for her reactions had any physical manifestation. In her video, she mentions feeling like her head has blown up or that she is swinging in a hammock.

Explaining her feeling, Dr Michael DeGeorgia, a neurologist from University Hospitals Case Medical Centre, said that sedated patients try to make sense of their surroundings even though they appear unconscious. He explained that Wineland thought she was in Alaska, and she felt freezing, ice packs were applied to her body, when she felt she was swinging in a hammock, she was inverted to drain fluids.

He further explained that many patients face post-traumatic stress disorder or other trauma when they are left in a dream-like state during sedation. When we are in a dream our entire brain is not synchronised many a times when you wake up from the dream, you don’t remember it. Similarly, when you are in and out of sedation your brain is not synchronised in laying down memories.

Watch this video, to experience what Claire went through while in a coma.
