In recent news, more than 200 residents of a society of Noida, Uttar Pradesh have fallen severely ill due to alleged water contamination on Monday. According to reports, the residents which mostly included children experienced serious symptoms of vomiting and diarrhoea after consuming water that may have been contaminated. This took place in the Supertech Eco Village 2 society.

One of the residents of the society reported to the media that her son complained of poor health after coming back form a coaching institute. He was suffering from acute vomiting and had already suffered twice in the institute. The same person also reported that her younger son who is 8-years-old experienced the same symptoms after a while. Later in the day, the resident too complained of feeling sick and nauseous at around 11 pm. The person allege that the reason is certainly contaminated water.

Another resident said that since Sunday night, children fell sick with symptoms of vomiting and dysentery. They also complained of stomach ache, he said. As per reports, the residents initially thought that the children must have eaten something outside and the symptoms are due to that. However, the number of similar cases and symptoms started rising in the society and this points to water contamination as a possibility.

An official probe is currently being conducted to find out the exact cause, as per reports.

How To Stay Safe From Water Contamination During Monsoon Season?

With heavy torrential rainfall, frequent floods and waterlogging, there is a very high risk of water contamination. It typically happens when sewage water gets mixed up with clean water tanks. This can lead to multiple illnesses and this especially happens in monsoon season. Follow these important steps to stay safe:

  1. The first thing that you should do is protect your drinking water. You can keep the filters clean and get regular servicing done.
  2. If there is high risk of contamination, keep boiled water so that it kills all possible germs.
  3. Other steps to prevent water contamination is by not dumping anything down storm drains.
  4. Learn to maintain your car and the septic system. All societies must do so as well.
  5. Dispose off waste properly especially medical waste.
  6. Do not use extra water.
  7. Keep your pets clean and dispose off waste properly.
