Vinod Kambli Gets ₹30,000 Monthly Aid From Sunil Gavaskar For Medical Expenses; Sachin Tendulkar Has Also Supported Him
Vinod Kambli Health News: Former India batter Vinod Kambli who is battling serious health issues, will be now getting Rs 30,000 per month from legendary Sunil Gavaskar's CHAMPS Foundation for the rest of his life and also an annual amount of Rs 30,000 for medical expenses. The foundation, which started in 1999, has provided financial assistance to Kambli during tough times.
Kambli was hospitalized in December last year after complaints of urinary infection and cramps. He was admitted to a hospital in Thane for almost two weeks before getting discharged on January 1. Kambli has had several health challenges over the past few years. He also underwent two heart surgeries in 2013, with financial support from Sachin Tendulkar.
Kambli, who rose to fame along with Sachin Tendulkar in the Indian team, recently came into the limelight for his ailing health.
Vinod Kambli has been suffering from multiple health complications in recent years. According to close sources, the former left-handed batsman has been battling severe urinary tract infections (UTIs) and has a history of cardiac issues. In fact, he has undergone angioplasty and heart surgeries in the past, which have greatly impacted his health and day-to-day functionality. Due to his deteriorating condition, he is largely restricted to staying at home and is unable to take on professional commitments.
Kambli, who once enthralled millions with his stylish batting and explosive innings in the early '90s, has seen a dramatic downturn in life post-retirement. He has publicly spoken about facing financial hardship, especially as medical bills continue to pile up. The 51-year-old has not had a steady job in recent years and reportedly made multiple appeals for work within cricket administration, coaching, or commentary largely to no avail.
Having made his India debut in 1993, Kambli played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India. He also holds the record as one of the Indian batters to score consecutive double centuries in Tests. He had scored 1084 runs in Tests and 2477 runs in ODIs. Following his India retirement, Kambli got involved in drugs and alcohol. In fact, he has been to rehab close to 15 times, according to several reports.
