Vietnam Record 4 Influenza-Related Deaths; Ministry Of Health Tightens Surveillance
Vietnam's Ministry of Health has instructed the south-central province of Binh Dinh to control cross-infection in healthcare facilities after the region reported four deaths from influenza A/H1N1pdm, local media reported on Thursday. All four deceased patients were over 50 years old and had severe pneumonia, along with multiple underlying health conditions at the time of their hospital admission.
Doctors noted that the influenza A/H1N1pdm-related deaths seemed to be isolated incidents, with no epidemiological connections identified.
The provincial Department of Health reported that as of November 26, the province had recorded 842 cases of influenza. Of these, 26 cases were diagnosed with severe pneumonia, possibly viral in nature. Laboratory tests confirmed 10 cases of influenza A/H1N1pdm, one case of influenza B, and nine negative cases, with six results still pending.
