Vasai Schoolgirl's Death: A heartbreaking incident in Vasai has raised serious concerns about student health and school safety after a 13-year-old girl reportedly collapsed and later declared dead while being forced to perform 100 sit-ups as punishment during a physical activity session.

An investigating team looking into the matter revealed that she had undiagnosed anaemia - a condition where the body lacks healthy, red blood cells, leading to fatigue, weakness, and poor oxygen circulation.A sixth-grade student, Kajal Gaur, from Shri Hanuman Vidya Mandir, was punished on 8th November along with 50 other students who were late; everyone was asked to do set-ups with their school bags on their backs. This tragedy has also sparked widespread discussions on the importance of recognising underlying health issues and children and schools exercise caution by conducting physical activities. While basic exercises are a standard part of school routines, but experts emphasise that any intense activity must be supervised carefully, especially when students are showing signs of discomfort.

School officials admitted that they were aware of Kajal's fragile health and had previously advised her parents to get her checked but maintained that the teacher who gave the punishment, Mamta Yadav did not realise. Kajal was part of the group, and the principal stated that Mamta could not identify her because of the girls shot height. He added that Mamta who has been with the school since it was founded in 2009, has now been suspended while an enquiry is underway and the school is cooperating with the police and education department.

But the other side of the coin is not the same as Kajal's family never accepted being informed about her health condition or advised by any faculty member. Her father said, "If they knew she was weak, why would they make her do something so harsh? And why should any child be made to do this? "he also said that even the school CCTV cameras have been disconnected. Not only this, but daughter Kajal, even complained, severe body aches after returning from school on the very particular day . The same day, she also collapsed at home after which her mother rushed her to a hospital and was also shifted to another hospital on Thursday with severe condition where she died on Saturday.

This tragedy calls for an urgent action to make sure no child is being punished so harshly as there is this need for safe disciplinary practices, better health, monitoring in schools and stronger accountability to ensure no child's life is endangered under the guise of routine punishment
