In a bizarre turn of events, at least six members of a family hailing from the United States were infected with trichinellosis which is a rare roundworm parasite after eating undercooked black bear meat. The family had gathered at South Dakota for a family reunion when they had a meal together, according to the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports. As per the CDC report, the meat from the bear was stored in a freezer for a month and a half. After which the due process w2as carried out in order to ensure that it is healthy and free of worms. It was then thawed out and served as rare because of its dark colour. However, it was again recooked and served as family members noticed the undercooked taste. The family of nine members then ate the meal.
The 29-year-old man was the first person to be infected with this rare round worm called trichinellosis.
