Union Budget 2012: 15850 crore for child devpt, 14000 crore for rural water supply and sanitation

Pranab Mukherjee just announced that the Integrated Child Development Scheme is to be strengthened and restructured with allocation of Rs.15,850 crore. This includes supplementary nutrition,immunization,health check-up,referral services,pre-school non-formal education and nutrition & health education.

There is also an allocation of Rs.14,000 crore for rural water supply and sanitation. The World Health Organisation estimated that around 700,000 Indians die each year from diarrhoea. Most of these deaths are due to bad water supply and lack of sanitation.

Whether the budget delivers as per the expectations of the healthcare industry is yet to be seen. We will keep you updated about the progress.
