The United Nations released the World Happiness Report 2025 on the occasion of the International Day of Happiness on Thursday and the list is rather shocking. The United States, a country that used to fall in the top 20 list has now dropped to a record low at 24. Whereas, India is at 118. The top country is Finland and this it is the happiest country for the eighth time in a row. Finland is followed by some of the other Nordic countries like Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden. The Nordic countries have always been dominating this list and has done it again in 2025. The other countries in the top 10 are: Netherlands, Costa Rica, Norway, Israel, Luxembourg and Mexico. India, however, was not in the top 20 list. The 2025 report was published Thursday, March 20. The annual report is conducted by several organisations, ranking countries from the most to least overall happiness. Continuing the trend, Nordic countries are leading the list this year too, occupying the top four spots.
According to the report, India has made a slight improvement compared to last year and its happiness quotient is now at 118 among 147 countries. Last year it stood at 126. However, India is a lot unhappier than many other conflict-prone countries of the world like that of Ukraine, Mozambique, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Palestine, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Gambia and Venezuela.
Happiness is an important factor that not only determines a populations mental and physical health but also their overall well-being.
