With a new fact coming into the light about the accused of the Uber cab rape case, the accused Shiv Kumar Yadav, could be a repeat offender, police official said. (Read: Uber cab driver rapes passenger in Delhi)
The police informed that the accused was arrested once before in connection with another rape case in the year 2011. The accused spent 7 months in Tihar jail. In the previous incident, when he worked as a cab driver, he had raped the victim in the cab after he took her, too, an isolated spot in Chattarpur.
The US based taxi service could be in a lot of trouble because of this case as no police verification was done earlier. The police verification could have easily averted the incident. (Read: Delhi Shame: What could have averted the Uber rape case)
The accused would be produced before the court on Monday, Madhur Verma, deputy commissioner of Delhi Police (north), said. He also said, 'Every violation by Uber will be evaluated and we'll go for legal recourse'. The police would take legal advice before opting to press a criminal or civil case. Uber has been served a notice and has been asked to help with the investigation.

This news could bring trouble for Uber as legal action might be taken, as the incident just took place before the second anniversary of the Delhi bus gang rape which took the country by shock. The police faced a lot of problems initially with investigation as Uber could not produce call details of the accused as their server is located in the US. The breakthrough came when different parts of UP, especially Mathura were raided by 12 police teams. Mathura is, located 160 Km south of North Delhi where the crime took place.
