A powerful 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Iwate pre-fracture at approximately 5:03 p.m. JST on Sunday, prompting the Japan Meteorological Agency to issue a tsunami advisory for the region. The depth of the earthquake was about 10 km, registered an intensity of four on Japan's shind scale in areas, including Marioka and Yahaba. Even a minor tsunami of 10 cm was recorded at Ofunato port, and waves up to 1 m were recorded along the coast. Local rail services were disrupted and powerful outages was reported in the region, although there is no as such damage or serious injuries have been confirmed so far.
