Statistics reveal that across the globe, a human life is lost every minute owing to heart attacks and road accidents. India being no exception to this, daily many people are adversely affected by this, and most of these cases arises due to lack of timely and proper help.
A heart attack results when a blood clot completely obstructs a coronary artery supplying blood to the heart muscle and heart muscle dies. The blood clot that causes the heart attack usually forms at the site of rupture of an atherosclerotic, cholesterol plaque on the inner wall of a coronary artery. Most ambulance services are not equipped to handle emergency situations. This problem increases with poor maintenanceof ambulances and severe traffic conditions in the city. In order to save lives in such critical situations our country needs a rapid emergency response service which addresses such critical situation within the minimum time. Nowadays there are many Public-Private Partnership ambulance services are being provided to help citizens. An example of this is the GVK-Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), which operates 108 ambulance service. EMRI emergency response services are being provided in collaboration with state governments under public- private partnership (PPP) mode. On a daily basis, at GVK EMRI, over 23,000 emergencies are responded to, 800 lives saved and 200 child births are assisted.
As part of our endeavor to provide emergency services, we started TOPSLINE in 2004with the aim of providing emergency within 9 to 15 minutes. These life brigadesare equipped with the latest lifesaving equipment's like - ECG, Vital Monitors Signs, Oxygen cylinders, Glucometers, Nebulizers, Life Saving drugs And Fire Rescue unit- Fire extinguishers, Fire hose, Snorkel, Fire suits. A team of - Paramedic/ Doctor, Vigilance Officer, OPS-In-charge and Response Officer is also present. TOPSLINE 1252/9821531252 runs on the 911 model and response time to the emergency is faster.
TOPSLINE today has successfully rescued over 80,000 lives in the past 9 years. Over 7,00,000Mumbaikars are celebrating life by taking TOPSLINE membership. TOPSLINE runs on a subscription based model where, monthly subscription of INR 200 has to be paid and the subscriber can avail the TOPSLINE services.
Over the years of operation in Mumbai, TOPSLINE has shown their active support to saving the lives of citizens during the Mumbai Floods (2005) saved around 400 lives, Mumbai Terror Attacks (2008) TOPSLINE was stationed at Taj, Trident and Nariman House, Mantralaya Fire rescued around 3000 Govt. Officials and many other social initiatives have been taken by TOPSLINE.
Currently, 6.25 billion people worldwide lack access to a reliable emergency response system. Life of an individual is the most precious one and we citizens should actively participate and demand the Government for the need of an emergency response service for the pan-India network.
