International wrestler Dalip Singh Rana, fondly know as The Great Khali suffered a near fatal head injury during a promotional wrestling event held at Haldwani in Uttarakhand. On Wednesday night during the first day of the show, Khali was in the ring with fellow contestants Mike Knox and Brody Steel. As the fight continued things got little out of hand when his fellow contestants cornered him and started to attack him with a chair.

The game took an ugly turn when his fellow contestants attacked him with a steel chair which made him fall on the ground and bleed profusely from the head. Soon he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was admitted to the ICU. He received seven stitches on head and complained about chest and back pain. Since there were not enough medical facilities at the hospital soon he was airlifted to Max Hospital in Dehradun where he underwent various CT scans and tests to assure that he didn t suffer from any lethal chest injury. Here is why India needs to be more aware of head injury awareness.

Doctors at Haldwani after initial treatment assured that his condition was stable and his vital organs were functioning properly. However, he surfed from edema in the brain due to the attack and without proper treatment it could turn to be fatal. However, it is learnt that his condition is stable now and he is recovering slowly and steadily. The show where he got hurt was a part of The Great Khali Return, and he took part in the first show.

Present at the event were eminent personalities like Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat; Finance Minister, Indira Hridayesh and Sports Minister, Yashpal Arya.
