A new research has revealed that erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viagra, don't cause skin cancer, but following lifestyle that involves ingesting medications to prevent erectile dysfunction can be blamed.
The research conducted at NYU Langone Medical Center and its Laura and Isaac Perlmutter Cancer Center suggested that as per around 20,000 medical reports analysed, likely source of the observed uptick in malignant melanoma risk among users of erectile dysfunction drugs is socio-economic and lifestyle based.
Stacy Loeb, lead study investigator, said that their study showed that groups of men who are more likely to get malignant melanoma include those with higher disposable incomes and education and ones who have the means to buy erectile dysfunction medications, which are very expensive.
Loeb added that medications for erectile dysfunction come with serious risk of a drop in blood pressure if taken together with other medicines called nitrates, but physician shouldn't blame drugs and rather screen men for melanoma risk.
The research is published online in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
