The whole Maggi controversy with lead content beyond permissible limits got me thinking, and I wanted to know if we are exposed to lead in any other form. Here are a few everyday things that may contain lead.
India's favourite two-minute snack is under the scanner of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for over a month now, after a few samples tested positive for the presence of MSG and lead beyond limits. This controversy just got bigger after a Bihar court ordered an FIR against Madhuri Dixit and Amitabh Bachchan for endorsing the product. Nestle previously tried some damage control by assuring consumers that it is safe for consumption. Nestle had sent some samples for testing to private accredited labs. Now, the tests from these labs have revealed that lead levels in Maggi samples are well within the limit. Nestle India in an official statement on their website have assured of the safety of Maggi noodles. The company informed that they have submitted almost 600 products batches, which represent 125 million packets to an external laboratory for testing. And all the results prove that lead levels in the samples are within the permissible limit.
They have further assured consumers that Maggi noodles are subjected to regular checks, and they are committed to maintaining the quality and safety of their product.
