The first case of Swine flu was confirmed in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu when a 27-year-old driver was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College. He is being treated at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital with two more patients from Tirupur who were admitted and diagnosed with swine flu early last week.
"The patient is undergoing treatment at the moment and his condition is stable. He has not travelled on any long distance recently. We are taking precautionary measures at the moment," said Dr S Senthilkumar, deputy director, Public Health Services, Coimbatore.
The Public Health Department is starting a fresh vaccination drive, administering the vaccine to all health department and medical staff as well as people who come in close contact with the patients. The doctors have assured that there is no need to panic since there are only three cases in Coimbatore till now. The swine flu vaccines will be available to the public in the second phase.
As of Saturday, 29 cases were reported in total in Tamil Nadu.
