Amidst the rising cases of swine flu all over India and the fear of spreading throughout the nation, what everyone should be aware of is the fact that panicking won t help you. Instead of blaming your fate and the Government for not providing effective healthcare facilities, you can educate yourself about the symptoms and signs of swine flu and create awareness among your family. Also known as H1N1 type A influenza, the symptoms of swine flu are quite common to those experience in case of seasonal flu. But, swine flu is highly contagious and can be transmitted quickly from a person suffering with the condition through air droplets. Therefore it is best you avoid crowded places and large gatherings. The virus can be spread (by the people suffering from the condition) one day before the actual symptoms arise and around 7 days after the symptoms start to develop. However, in case of children, the virus is active for around 10 days and thus, the chances of infection are high in this case. Fever: As in case of normal flu, infection with H1N1 influenza virus also causes an increase in the body temperature (100 degree Fahrenheit or more). Known as the first-line of attack by the immune system, the body produces immune cells to kill the foreign bodies.
