Puducherry, March 2: All Government hospitals and primary and community health centres in Puducherry is equipped with adequate stocks of medicines to handle cases of swine flu. A separate isolation ward was kept ready for admission and treatment of patients with symptoms of swine flu in the Government Hospital for Chest Diseases at Gorimedu here, a release from the Direct of Health Services Dr K V Raman said today. A separate outpatient wing had also been opened to treat swine flu cases on fast track basis in the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Research Institute. He said so far 22 were found to be positive cases for swine flu. Sixteen of these patients were treated and discharged. Of the remaining six patients one patient died of the swine flu in a private hospital here and the other five patients were undergoing treatment in the government hospital. Asking the people not to panic, he said the government was taking sustained measures to control the spread of the disease. As per the guidelines given by the Union Health Ministry, JIPMER hospital here is the only authorized centre for the Union Territory of Puducherry to do the tests for confirmation of swine flu.
