After rampantly spreading and affecting most of the states in the country, swine flu has now seems to have gripped Maharashtra. Earlier a few cases had been reported from all across the state but and on Saturday five new cases were reported from Mumbai. As reported by DNA, four of these five cases are on ventilator support and three of them are senior citizens, which is high risk group. The DNA also reported, Dr Mangala Gomare, the epidemiology department in-charge in BMC saying that they are monitoring the condition of all the new H1N1 patients all of whom have been admitted in private hospitals. One of the patients is a 61 year old female from Bandra whereas the rest of them are from outside Mumbai. (Read: Swine flu how to prevent the disease)

The BMC has also directed private hospitals to first treat any patient who comes to them with symptoms of the disease and perform tests on them later. BMC also warns senior citizens who have other diseases like diabetes and hypertension to treat any signs and symptoms of H1N1 promptly to prevent the disease.

The total death toll due to disease in the state is 34 out of which four lives have been claimed from Mumbai. The state health department is leaving no stone unturned to curb and prevent the spread of the disease by spreading awareness among citizens and directing private doctors to do the same.
