According to the Health Ministry, swine flu has claimed more than 1,500 lives around the nation and almost 27,000 people are infected with the virus. Although the Government has initiated precautionary measures and improved healthcare facilities for diagnosis and treatment of the affected patients all over the country, swine flu is still prevalent in major states. Swine flu in Mumbai: 4 people died from swine flu in Mumbai (in a single day) taking the death toll to 28 (from January 1). As 3 out of the 4 people who died also suffered from hypertension, doctors claim that hypertension might act as a co-morbid factor in swine flu cases (meaning it can increase the risk of mortality in people affected with swine flu). The overall toll of people suffering from swine flu in Mumbai, as of now, is 1,072. Here are 10 facts about swine flu you should know.

Swine flu in West Bengal: One more person died of swine flu in Kolkata taking the overall death toll to 19. There have been 15 fresh cases of swine flu recorded in the state, since the past two day. With the current dead toll of 19, the total number of swine flu cases in West Bengal has reached to 304.

Swine flu in Telangana: Three more people died of swine flu in Telangana, taking the overall death toll to 69.  Officials said that around 37 people were tested positive for H1N1 virus. Swine flu in J&K: The total number of people suffering from swine flu in Jammu and Kashmir has crossed 400. While to death toll due to swine flu infection in the state has risen to 17, according to health authorities.

Swine flu in Rajasthan: Rajasthan has recorded the maximum number of deaths due to swine flu with the overall death toll to 371 (till 13th March). Out of the 6,153 patients tested positive for the virus, 350 deaths have been reported of people from Rajasthan and 21 who died in the state but were residents of other states, said the official of the State Medical and Health Directorate. Swine flu in Mizoram: 6 new cases of people suffering from swine flu have been reported from from Mizoram. The samples of the six infected people have been sent to the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, Kolkata to diagnose the condition. Swine flu in Bihar: A woman suffering from swine flu died on March 13, which was the first case of death due to swine flu in the state.
