Even after the Gujarat government imposed a ban on most public gatherings of five or more people in Ahmedabad in a bid to halt the spread of swine flu, the diseases has not been tamed. Officials have now also asked people to wear masks as precautionary measure. With nine more deaths reported in Gujarat due to swine flu, the total death toll in the state is steadily climbing towards the 300 mark. (Read: Swine flu symptoms and signs you MUST be aware of!)
As per reports, two more deaths were reported from Ahmedabad and Junagadh, while one death each was reported in Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar and Amreli. Back-to-back weather systems this season have kept the humidity levels high and have also influenced the wind pattern across the plains of northwest India and adjoining areas, resulting in swine flu virus sustaining for a longer period. The death toll in the country due to swine flu toll has now risen to 1115. Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus. Symptoms for swine flu include high fever, headache, muscle pain, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain and internal and external bleeding. (Read: Prevent swine flu with these 10 dos and don ts)
