Swine flu in Delhi: No need to panic, precautionary measures in place

Ghaziabad, Jan 3: After the panic over swine flu with the death of a 51-year-old woman of the district in Delhi hospital, Union minister and local MP General (retd) V K Singh has directed district administration to take all precautionary measures to deal with swine flu days.

Although the Minister of State for External Affairs said yesterday that the disease should be taken seriously to prevent its spread that it may not spread all over the district, it has been emphasised that people should not panic about the situation. The precautionary arrangements are being made available in the district hospital,' the Minister said. (Read: Why the swine flu situation in India is bad)

In a statement to Hindustan Times, Dr Charan Singh, Delhi government s nodal officer for swine flu, cautioned people to take preventive measures for swine flu but also highlighted that one does not need to panic as the virus strain is not a virulent strain. He mentioned that the virus behaves just like any other seasonal influenza virus with a self-limiting nature. 'The situation is not as worrisome as it was in 2009,' he said.

Here are some steps taken to tackle with the situation of swine flu

  • A meeting was held by the former Army chief with District Magistrate Vimal Kumar Sharma and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Ajay Aggarwal on Friday.
  • The DM directed health authorities to launch an awareness programme to allay the fear of people in the district.
  • District Malaria Officer Dr Gyanendra Kumar Mishra told that swine flu is an infection caused by Influenza A virus sub type H1N1 and 'spreads fast from infected persons through coughing or sneezing.' (Read: Swine flu: Ten facts you should know)
