Swine flu has claimed the life of a 30-year-old woman in Noida who had been admitted in the hospital due to flu. The patient who was a resident of Saharanpur was admitted in Metro Hospital and was suffering from serious health complications. Hospital officials said the woman was running high fever when she was admitted on January 9. Here are 10 facts you should know about swine flu.

The patient tested positive for the H1N1 virus. Her condition deteriorated overnight and she stopped responding to treatment. The patient was admitted on January 9 and she expired the next day, said an official. Dr Kanika Kanwar, medical superintendent of Metro Hospital, said the medical report has been sent to the district health department, as reported by TOI.

N P Singh, district magistrate, said there was no need to panic as hospitals have been directed to take all precautionary measures to prevent an outbreak. Doctors said swine flu is a respiratory disease caused by the influenza virus. Symptoms of swine flu are fever, cough, fatigue and headache, similar to most other influenza infections. Officials of a private hospital said they have been asked by the district health department to be cautious while talking to the media about swine flu.

Officials have directed us against sharing any information with the media to avoid unnecessary panic, said a doctor requesting anonymity. Gautam Budh Nagar chief medical officer R K Garg was unavailable for comment.
