Actor Kamal Haasan was recently nominated by PM Narendra Modi as a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The actor said that he has been involved in public work for a long time now and that the PM nominating him was a recognition of his work.
But while other starts like Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and many others have already taken to cleaning up their streets, Kamal Haasan had not made news for actually doing what was asked of him. Now, in a recent release the star has said that he will start the Swach Bharat Abhiyan on the 7th of November (his birthday) with volunteers of 'Narpani Iyakkam' (a group that works for social causes headed by Kamal Haasan) by cleaning up Madambakkam Lake, Chennai at seven in the morning.
Incidentally, in his response to PM Narendra Modi's nomination, Kamal Haasan, who recorded his response in the form of a video, said, 'Let me thank our honourable PM for naming me among this august list. I don't think it's a new duty that I have been appointed to. I think it's recognition of what I have been already doing and I thank the PM office for recognizing that. I am sure that some of my peers have also been chosen for what they have already done and are capable of. My work continues. It's not a public relations exercise. As far as I am concerned, it's public work that I am part of. Thank you for awakening my commitment again.'
