Sunanda Pushkar, wife of former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, whose mysterious death in a luxury hotel room in south Delhi in the month of January surfaced a lot of underlying causes and possibilities, has now been confirmed to have died due to poisoning. However, the name of the chemical or compound that resulted in poisoning has not yet been revealed. (Read: Sunanda Pushkar suffered from Lupus and TB)
The report has been submitted to the police nine days ago by a team of doctors at AIIMS who had conducted an autopsy on her. The results were based on the findings of Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) that carried out examination of Sunanda's viscera. According to them, the team of three-member panel of doctors, concluded that her kidney, liver and heart were functioning normally and that her death was caused due to poisoning. Earlier in March, when the viscera report of CFSL indicated that drug poisoning resulted in her death, but police considered it as inconclusive. A re-examination was then requested, where the AIIMS team was to submit the report. The three-member team has now submitted the Subsequent Medical Board Opinion to the police on September 30. The fresh report denies drug poisoning as the cause of her death. Instead it hints towards chemical poisoning, which contradicts the earlier report of her natural death.
