While breast cancer is on a rise, with younger women also developing this condition, doctors say that even the level of awareness is improving. Many women seek diagnosis and treatment at an earlier stage. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and doctors are stressing not on just on spreading awareness but also on dispelling the myths associated. Here are a few diet tips for breast cancer patients.
Selvamani, head of Radiotherapy, Christian Medical College (CMC) says that in the recent years, there has been an increase in the cases of breast cancer, mainly because of urbanisation, late marriages and late pregnancies. When examining your breasts for lumps, do not forget to examine your armpits too.
Currently there are about 29 cases of breast cancer per 100,000 women. But on the brighter side, patients seek medical help in the initial stages of the condition, improving their chances treatment. Unlike earlier, when women would come in only by stage 3 of the condition, women self-examine the breast and rush for medical attention if they are concerned, which boosts their chances of getting diagnosed in time. Selvamani also added that clearing the misconceptions is equally important. Many women have concerns about whether they can go back to a normal life after being treated for breast cancer. It is pertinent to know that an active lifestyle, healthy diet and weight control go a long way to ensure that you have a normal and improved quality of life.
