six legged babyDoctors in a Karachi hospital have successfully removed the extra limbs of a baby boy who was born with six legs. The operation lasted for about two hours, and the baby is now in stable condition, doctors at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) in Karachi said Thursday. The baby was born to the wife of an X-ray technician a week ago, Geo TV reported. Also Read - Bizarre: You may willingly amputate a healthy limb if you have body integrity identity disorder

A doctor requesting anonymity said the extra limbs were the result of a genetic disease. “The doctors are examining the infant to plan for necessary treatment to ensure he lives a normal life,” the Sindh provincial health department said in a statement. Imran Shaikh, the baby’s father, said he was grateful his son was being treated. “We are a poor family. I am thankful to the government for helping us,” he told media. The baby born in Pakistan’s Sindh province had six legs. The baby boy was born with extra limbs in Sukkur. He was Monday shifted to the National Institute of Child Health (NICH) in Karachi. NICH director Jamal Raza said the infant has a parasitic twin. In medical jargon, it is called fetus in fetu or baby within a baby. An extremely rare scenario, this kind of a condition occurs in 1 out of 500,000 pregnancies
