Are you ill? Listening to a particular song can help you feel better. A new survey has revealed that one should listen to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody if one is unwell or down. A ComRes survey for BBC local radio for Faith in the World Week offered 1,000 people 10 choices where 'Dancing Queen' by Abba grabbed the second spot, and Pharrell Williams' 'Happy' secured the third place with, the BBC reported.
The survey revealed that overall, 81 percent of Britons said that they had been made to feel better by listening to music and just 36 percent said that they preferred to listen to speech than music when they were not feeling well. 30 percent of men choose ' Bohemian Rhapsody' from the list provided. Among younger adults, 'Happy' was the most popular song. Songs by Bob Marley, Robbie Williams and Michael Jackson were also on the list presented in the survey. The survey examined how music could change and shape people's lives. (Read: Music works wonders in treating neurological disorders)
How does music affect the mind?
Alicia Sheilah: Many musical therapy experts recommend making music a part of your daily life, because its effects can improve with time. There is evidence that, over time, your language skills, creativity, happiness, and more, can improve with regular musical therapy. There are different components to music that can have an effect. Pitch, harmony, frequency, melody and rhythm all affect the brain in different ways.
