Indian skipper, Shubham Gill, 26, recently retired hurt after he suffered a neck sprain while attempting to score runs quickly against Simon Harmer on the second day of the first test against South Africa in Kolkata on November 15. The 26-year-old cricket star reportedly faced only three balls before the injury forced him off the Kolkata field. Healthcare professionals were immediately dispatched to the field at the time of the incident. However, after a brief check, the Indian skipper walked off grimacing in discomfort.

Will Shubham Gill Participate In The Guwahati Test?

At the time of the incident, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to X to update Shubham Gill's fans about the physical condition of the Indian captain. They wrote, "Shubman Gill has a neck spasm and is being monitored by the BCCI medical team. A decision on his participation today will be taken as per his progress."

Following treatments for neck spasm, the 26-year-old has been discharged from the hospital. But Shubham Gill's participation in the second Test in Guwahati which is to be held on Saturday, is doubtful. The medical team of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has advised Gill to take rest for at least three days, while avoiding air travel. An official confirmed, "He has acute neck pain and has been advised not to fly."

What Is Neck Spasm?

Neck spasm is a contraction of muscles around your neck, which is often caused by injury, poor posture and repetitive movement. Neck pain and stiffness are some of the most common symptoms of neck spasm that may last for a week even after the contraction fades away.
