At the time of the incident, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to X to update Shubham Gill's fans about the physical condition of the Indian captain. They wrote, "Shubman Gill has a neck spasm and is being monitored by the BCCI medical team. A decision on his participation today will be taken as per his progress."
Following treatments for neck spasm, the 26-year-old has been discharged from the hospital. But Shubham Gill's participation in the second Test in Guwahati which is to be held on Saturday, is doubtful. The medical team of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has advised Gill to take rest for at least three days, while avoiding air travel. An official confirmed, "He has acute neck pain and has been advised not to fly."
Neck spasm is a contraction of muscles around your neck, which is often caused by injury, poor posture and repetitive movement. Neck pain and stiffness are some of the most common symptoms of neck spasm that may last for a week even after the contraction fades away.
Healthline states, "If you experience a neck spasm, you'll feel a sudden and sharp pain in one or more parts of your neck, deep in the muscle tissue. The affected muscle might also feel hard or tight. It might be painful to move your neck around."
Neck spasm is not a serious condition but can be treated at home with simple neck movement or exercises.
