Indian cricket star Shreyas Iyer, 30, has finally been released from the hospital after suffering a ruptured spleen and rib cage during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney.
The Indian cricket board, in a statement, wrote, "The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today."
The memo by the Indian cricket board further revealed that although the 30-year-old vice captain is recovering well, taking cognizance of his condition and the risk involved, he will remain in Sydney until he feels better to fly back home.
Shreyas Iyer, India ODI vice captain, was reportedly hospitalised and taken for ICU treatment after he sustained an injury while trying to take a catch of Australian player Alex Carey off Harshit Rana's bowling last Saturday.
The cricketer earlier updated his fans in a post on X and Instagram about his condition after the incident. He wrote, "I'm currently in recovery process and getting better, every passing day. I'm deeply grateful to see all the kind wishes and support I've received - it truly means a lot. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts."
While fans were left in shock, they continued to show their support. Talking about the 'diving catching' while sending wishes, one internet user wrote, "I am Very Glad you are recovering from a big injury. Please take a rest. Don't rush for Comeback. I am sure you will be back and strong. You are the true fighter. Your diving catch is the true gem of 2025." Another wrote, "Bro, take care. Whole India is with you!" A third internet user added, "Get well soon, Iyer."
The BCCI also clarified that the 30-year-old vice captain is not involved in the ongoing T20I series against Australia. However, his next assignment is due in the upcoming ODIs against South Africa that start from November 30.
