Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir KapoorSports biopics are here to stay. It all started with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in which Farhan Akhtar played Milkha Singh with aplomb and now Priyanka Chopra is going to bring Mary Kom's epic journey. Rumours suggest that the next sport star to be immortalised on the big screen will be hockey legend Dhyan Chand and reports suggest that the movie will helmed by Ila Bedi Dutta who wrote Agneepath and produced by Pooja Shetty.

There are reports that either Shah Rukh Khan or Ranbir Kapoor would play the lead role. Ila Bedi has been quoted as saying: 'I met Shah Rukh to discuss the project. To us, he is the perfect choice for Dhyan Chand. Though we haven't heard from him yet, we expect him to sign the dotted line.'

Even Abhishek Bachchan thinks SRK can do great justice to the role. He said recently at an event: 'A sportsman whose life will be fantastic on screen is Major Dhyan Chand. It will be an unbelievable story. These are the stories that need to be told. I told Shah Rukh Khan (during the shoot of Happy New Year) to make a film on it and play the protagonist, because he looks a lot like him. If you see his photo, you must need to change Shah Rukh's hair a bit. Shah Rukh was a hockey player. I think he will be fantastic.'

Incidentally, Shah Rukh has already appeared in a hockey movie Chak De where he plays a disgraced player who returns to the game to coach the Indian girls' hockey team.

Who was Dhyan Chand?

Considered one of the greatest field hockey players of all time, he belonged in an era when field hockey was dominated by Indians. He was part of the all-conquering Indian teams that won three Olympic gold medals (1928, 1932 and 1936). In the Berlin Olympics in 1936, in Hitler's Germany, Dhyan Chand was central in a performance where India destroyed Germany 8-1 in the finals.

He was hailed as a magician in Berlin and the Fuhrer even offered him a chance to move to Germany and be a Colonel in the army but the proud nationalist that Dhyan Chand was, declined the offer. Such was his stature in the game that his birthday 29 August has been declared National Sports Day in India.

So who will become a better Dhyan Chand Shah Rukh Khan or Ranbir Kapoor?
